Aveda was founded in 1978 by world-class hairstylist Horst Rechelbacher, with the vision to provide beauty professionals with botanical products that would be good for them, their guests, and the Earth. The name “Aveda” comes from Ayurveda, the traditional Hindu system of holistic wellness based on balance between body, mind, and soul.

As a beauty and wellness brand, Aveda represents an opportunity to create positive change, starting with the products we use on our hair and skin and how those products are made. Rechelbacher believed that “even the simplest, seemingly insignificant choices we make in our daily lives—what to eat, what to wear, what to use on our bodies and in our homes—have a ripple effect that reaches far beyond us personally.”

Aveda products have always been cruelty free and, starting in 2021, are 100% vegan. They are non toxic and created with pure botanical ingredients that deliver powerful and proven results. Aveda uses sustainable and environmentally responsible production and packaging practices.
